Hyalite Reservoir Dispersed Camping

Hood creek campground and chisholm campground abut hyalite reservoir and are starting points for numerous short and long hiking routes into the dense timber up to alpine meadows and lakes on the peaks above. The campground at 6 200 feet elevation is adjacent to scenic hyalite creek. Dispersed camping is restricted to designated sites look for a carsonite sign marked with a tent symbol within mile of the main hyalite road and east fork road.
Dispersed camping is the term used for camping anywhere in the national forest outside of a designated campground and is generally allowed anywhere except within 100 feet of a lake trail or stream or where posted as closed. In addition to camping in hyalite canyon there are many other recreation opportunities. At an elevation of 6500 feet the campground encompasses an area of 5 acres contains 25 camp sites and one group picnic area and three day use picnic areas. Some recreation opportunities include fishing kayaking hiking trails rock climbing and backpacking to name a few.
Largest camping spur is 25 x 45. Langohr campground along hyalite creek provides wildlife viewing and fishing midst towering rocky peaks. It contains cutthroat trout and arctic grayling. Hyalite creek runs through the canyon and as you follow hyalite canyon road you ll reach the beautiful hyalite reservoir.
A no wake rule has been instituted allowing only low speed motoring for trolling. Restrooms picnic tables fire rings trash pick up service and drinking water are provided. Recently added was a picnic pavilion on the west shoreline of the hyalite reservoir dam. The campground has 20 sites and is open between mid may and mid september weather permitting.
Roads and parking spurs are paved. Some are among scattered pine and fir trees. The reservoir was constructed in the late 1940 s and enlarged in 1993. Many additional sites outside of the restricted zone.
Generally there is a 14 day per two month stay limit 14 days in a 60 day period on the willamette national forest.
