How to clean berkey water filter. Remove the top container and set it on its top on a solid surface like a table or countertop. Remove the wing nuts from the base of the black carbon filters. Remove black berkey purification elements and fluoride filters if applicable. Wash the container by hand using warm water and a mild dishwashing soap.
Store filters in a safe place where there is no possibility of them rolling and breaking. Remove the fluoride filters if installed. Cleaning the stainless steel chambers. Wash the lower chamber once per month with soapy dishwater.
Remove the purification elements from your water filtration system then disassemble them. Use all natural dish soap like my homemade lemon foaming soap to scrub the upper and lower chambers of the stainless steel berkey. Hold the purification elements under cool water from your faucet while scrubbing vigorously the outside surfaces with a kitchen brush or a scotchbrite cleaning pad.
